Pumpkin Day

For Columbus day we decided to take advantage of Matt's day off and really enjoy celebrating the fall season as a family. At first, we considered going to one of the many pumpkin patches throughout the area, but decided it was going to be more expensive than we wanted to pay. We also considered driving out to the Shenendoah National Park to see some of the leaves, but worried that driving in the car looking at the leaves would only appeal to me and Matt and not so much to Ellie and Annie.

So instead, we stayed close to home, but did some really fun autumn things. First we made these cute little pumpkins treats - made out of orange slices and dots. I love these things, so does Ellie. Turns out Ellie isn't much of a fan, neither is Matt. Oh well.

Then we headed to Michael's to find a family craft. We settled on some pumpkin shaped placemats. We bought some foam to make faces on the pumpkins. But we decided we didn't want to risk getting them dirty as placemats. So we hung them up in the window. I like how each of them are a little different, allowing each of us to be creative. Ellie and Annie both decided what their pumpkins would look like. It was a lot of fun.

After lunch and naptime, we made some spider snacks that I saw online out of pretzels, crackers, peanut butter and raisins. They were a big hit.
Then we headed to the local nursery right by our house to get pumpkins for us to carve this year. We will be carving them later, but it's nice to have them on our doorstep. All in all, it was a fabulous day. Ellie and Annie had so much fun, more than they would have in the car and I dare say as much as they would have had at any of the pumpkin patches we were considering. Yea for Fall. It is such a fun season.

Oh and I also forgot to mention that our sandwiches for lunch were pumpkin shaped, thanks to one of our cookie cutters, as were the biscuits at dinner time. Fun, fun.
