Living in Washington DC, we have access to a ton of places that celebrate past and current presidents of the United States. So I couldn't let President's Day go by without doing something to celebrate at least one of the great men who has led our country. Since we have late church (starts at 3pm) we decided to make a quick trip into town and visit the Lincoln Memorial. Currently Ellie knows the names of George Washington, and President Obama. I felt like if she was going to know three president's names, she should at least know the first, the current, and then Abraham Lincoln. So off we went. It was a very cold day. The skies were clear, blue and gorgeous, but it was crazy cold and the wind was strong and brisk. We got all the way to the top, (Ellie counted every step), then took the obligatory pictures.
Ellie even stood still while I read the Gettysburg address to her. But by far the highlight for her and Annie had nothing to do with the Memorial. No, their favorite part was watching the ducks on the reflecting pool. Oh well. What do you do? They were pretty fun to watch, dunking their heads into the water looking for food and hanging around us expecting us to feed them. At least Ellie and Annie were exposed to presidential greatness. If only for a moment.
