Home Sweet Home

Well, we made it home finally. Flying with small children is not for the weak hearted. Ellie ended up sleeping only about 40 minutes of the 4 hour flight that began at 7:15pm MST and ended at 1:15am EST. I was sure I was going to die. As our one friend put it, if you have kids, you ain't got nothing but kids. And that is truly the case when flying on a plane. The nice thing was that we were able to put Ellie in her carseat as the flight was not full.*

Despite the lack of sleep, Ellie was pretty good (only an combined hour of screaming, probably) and really liked waving at everyone getting off the plane. It took us another couple of hours to get the luggage (blast those slow luggage people), get our car from long term parking and drive home from Baltimore.

But we made it and finally crawled into bed at 3:15am EST. As much as I love visiting my family both in Utah and Arizona (what a treat that we got to see both sets of parents this year) I am so glad to be home in Virginia. Mostly because of our incredibly comfy bed. We received the best piece of advice ever when we were engaged - don't skimp, buy a nice bed. While we didn't have lots of money, we decided to follow the advice and bought a really nice, comfortable bed. (At the time, I think only our two cars, my wedding ring, and Matt's laptop exceeded its cost.) And it has been one of the best decisions we've made. We love coming home to it.

*This flight was particularly different than the other three flights this vacation in that Ellie was the ONLY baby on the plane. Literally, the only one. We preboarded with two elderly ladies and that was it. Our flights to Denver, SLC, and Phoenix were packed with small children. It was somewhat strange, but nice to be the only ones with a baby (except when she was screaming becuase, you know, we were the only ones with a screaming baby.)
