So we've been trying to teach Ellie the Christmas story so that she understands the real meaning of Christmas. We've talked about Mary and Joseph looking for room in the inns in Bethlehem and the stable and the angels and shepperds. She has even started recognizing Christmas songs about Jesus. It's been really neat to have her understand that Christmas is not only Santa, decorations, goodies and presents, but about our Savior, Jesus Christ - and that that's the most important part of Christmas.
This morning as we were driving around the song, Mary Did you Know? came on the radio. Ellie instantly recognized it a song Christmas song about Jesus and his mother Mary. She said, "Mary is Jesus' mother and Joseph is Jesus' regular Daddy." We followed up, who is Jesus' real Daddy? Ellie: "Jesus' real Daddy is Heavenly Father." Can you believe that? That's pretty advanced doctrine for a 3-yr-old, even if she doesn't quite get it. But how do you explain the immaculate conception to a 3-yr-old in the first place? I'm just glad she remembers the main characters in the story.
